Today's Dev #9

November 21, 2024

Today was a pull request and testing day. These sorts of days are nice, instead of borking my brain writing code I can take a look at someone else's. I have been so focused on budgie-daemon v2 development that I hadn't the chance yet to set aside time to review other very valuable contributions, so made sure to do that today. Not much to write about from my perspective of course, I wasn't the one that spent hours testing and writing the code 😄 Before getting around to that though, I needed to update to Fedora rawhide so I could get the latest release of libxfce4windowing for testing. It's sometimes a roll of the dice, but updating today at least went flawlessly! David Mohammed aka fossfreedom, Buddies of Budgie team member and lead of Ubuntu Budgie, had a few PRs pending review that needed to be looked at. Some very important changes related to background handling using swaybg, improving screen locking under Wayland, and some rejigging of session management (dropkicks our old WM code at the same time). Mind, my short summary doesn't really do all the work justice. Merged in his PR on background handling into main, so now some of us (like myself) don't have to write our own startup scripts to set a background, and others like David don't have to stare at blank screens at login. 🥳 Signing off for the day, fortunately with a functioning install still. Tomorrow I'll be back to working on the daemon.
